Best Denon Receivers 2022

For a long time, AV receivers have held the title of most popular home media center. This is unsurprising given how well these gadgets perform in terms of visual and audio. Receivers are getting increasingly popular, and the market is becoming increasingly competitive. We’ll take a look at each of the top Denon AV receivers in this study. This company has been around for almost a century. The company’s principles, the most important of which are quality and reliability, have remained constant throughout its existence.

Denon’s top premium 8K unit is the AVR-X6700H. An 11.2-channel amplifier module is included in the top-of-the-line AVR-X6700H. The power is 140 W/8 Ohm or 175 W/6 Ohm per channel making it perfect for your living room. If you still have two sets of speakers, you can establish a set of settings for each of them and swap back and forth between them.

In comparison to the Denon AVR-X6500H, the X6700H includes eight HDMI input terminals and three HDMI output terminals, all of which are HDMI 2.1 certified. The AVR-X6700H is able to support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz, as well as the newest video technologies such as Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, and even DTS: X Pro. I’d also want to point out that this device is compatible with IMAX Enhanced (up to 13 channels in 9.1.2 and 9.1.4 configurations) in the feature list.

For a true surround sound experience for the movie lover, the latest Dolby and DTS decoders have delivered remarkable detail, dynamics, and authenticity with the subwoofer output. And, with such high-quality sound accompanying an 8K visual, we know this is a fantastic premium Denon AV receiver.

Denon AVR-X3700H is a 9.2-channel 8K AV receiver with 105W per channel that supports video formats and 3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS: X®, DTS Virtual: X TM, and IMAX® Enhanced. The AVR-X3700H produces 9 180 Watts of power. The tech specs keeps the X2700H’s exterior while supporting 8K, 4K, dolby atmos, and dts:x. You gain an additional HDMI input and output, but the tuner is lost. It is upgraded to the XT32 format, and the IMAX Enhanced is introduced. The pre-out outputs appear, with a total of 11.2 channels that can be managed for killer sound. When using these preamp outputs, you can totally mute the internal amplifier channels, which was previously only accessible on the AVC-X8500H. The AVR-elegant X3700H’s interior houses classic analog power amplifiers with 180 watts per channel, just like other Denon AV receivers. A maximum of 11.2 channels can be processed by the pre-stage. This means, for example, that 7.2.4 surround sound speakers can be used with an additional stereo power amplifier.

The Denon AVC-X3700H is one of the best av receivers for movie who are willing to pay extra for a higher-quality and more immersive home theater experience with surround speakers. Two additional amplifier channels are included in the 9.2-channel AVR-X3700H, which can be used to drive more height channels or a pair of speakers in a separate audio experience. It also has eight HDMI inputs, however only one of them is HDMI 2.1 compliant. The Yamaha RX-V6A currently lacks some HDMI 2.1 functionality, which this receiver provides (although, again, there are some caveats that we will discuss below). It also offers a greater multi-room capability for sending audiovisual signals to your home, as well as a better user interface with crisper visuals.

The HDMI portion, which is fully 8K compliant, is the flagship of the nine-channel model with its traditional Denon surround system. A dedicated 8K HDMI terminal is also included. The “worry-free 8K package” is complete, with support for both 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz (high frame rate). In addition, all HDR format support, including HDR10, HDR10 Plus, HLG, and Dolby Vision. Other HDMI features, such as QMS (Quick Media Switch), are also available. This feature allows you to move between multiple resolutions like your gaming consoles or home entertainment setup and refresh rates without having to see a blank screen. The X3700H is a fantastic home theater experience thanks to these features. Options for streaming It is versatile and contains a powerful HEOS module, making it an excellent model for its quality and price tag.

The Denon AVR-X2700H is a lot of things all at once. This is an entry-level home theater receiver that costs much under $1,000. But it’s more than that; with 4K 120Hz input and 8K 60Hz input, this is a high-performance, future-proof receiver that’s well beyond its price range. It’s also oriented for gamers, making it an excellent choice for people with a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Although larger speaker sets can push this home theater setup to its limitations, 95 watts per channel should suffice for most users. It may, however, be set up for a variety of surround sound configurations, including 5.2 and 5.2.2. This home theater systems is also compatible with Heos, so you can use it to operate a total home audio system and set up multi-room speakers.

On paper, the compatibility for 8k / 60Hz HDMI 2.1 input, which can also go through 4K 120Hz video, is a considerable improvement over its predecessor, opening the way for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X prospective needs for speaker configuration. Even though there is just one HDMI 2.1 authorized input, the other five were not overlooked. To satisfy the needs of next-generation content, home theater receivers are compatible with Variable Refresh Rate Lag Reduction (VRR), Quick Frame Transport (QFT), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) technologies.

They also support the complete range of HDR standards, including HDR10 Plus, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision.
The two HDMI outputs are also 2.1 approved, allowing customers with a TV and projector in their system to send content in 8K @ 60Hz and 4K @ 120Hz. Also supported is EARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel).

It would be a mistake to dismiss the additions to this year’s model as being solely for gamers.
Denon engineers upgrade their AVR components and the firmware that they operate every year to improve sound quality, and 2020 is no exception.

If you’ve been a long-time Denon fan, you’re certainly familiar with the standard Denon swing-out door at the front, which allows you to reach the receiver’s numerous controls. This is not available on the X2700H. For most people, this isn’t a significant loss, but it does mean that you’ll have to use the remote for almost everything except changing channels and adjusting the volume.

On the other hand, Denon has managed to pack a lot of features into one receiver, from Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, and DTS Virtual: X support to cloud services like Spotify and Tidal and voice control with Google, Alexa, and Siri. One of the Best Denon Receivers in 2022.

The Denon AVR-S540BT is a good option if you want to put together a straightforward 5.1-channel surround-sound system but don’t have much (or any) experience doing it. Anyone who already has a basic 5.1 system in place but wants to upgrade their home theater speakers because it cannot handle 4K or HDR will find it to be a cost-effective option.

The Denon AVR-S540BT doesn’t have many functions, but even if you don’t have much knowledge, it’s really simple to set up. Even if you’re a novice, setting up the system to work properly is made simple with on-screen prompts and a back panel that is well labeled. This 5.1-channel AV receiver offers five HDMI 2.0 inputs that support 4K HDR pass-through (but no HDMI 2.1 features), which is more than you’ll find on some comparable priced models. It also supports high-quality Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks (but not the overhead capabilities of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X). Additionally, there is a USB connector on the front panel, three digital inputs, and two analog inputs in the back. The receiver has Bluetooth for music streaming and rudimentary room adjustment for clear audio channels.

Both built-in music streaming and Wi-Fi are absent from this receiver. Because of this, you must use Bluetooth to stream music, which necessitates that your phone or other source device be close to the receiver. Alternatively, you can install a low-cost Wi-Fi streaming device. The AVR-S540BT also lacks the front-panel HDMI port, Audyssey room correction, and speaker connections that accept just pins and thinner speaker lines rather than banana plugs or bigger speaker wires seen on higher-end Denon models.

Professional home theater audio tuning at your fingertips. Denon’s latest audio streaming / video products use the Audyssey suite of EQ software for simple and accurate setup and calibration. With the supplied measurement microphone, Audyssey measures all the speaker configuration in your home theater system and tunes the AV receiver to deliver the most fluid and optimal overall listening experience for your room. Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Audyssey Dynamic EQ smooth out surprising volume jumps (like TV commercials), allowing you to listen at lower levels while enjoying clear dialogue, music, sound effects, and precise tonal adaptation. For enthusiasts, the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app allows you to view speaker detection data to verify Audyssey calibration results before and after, making it easy to optimize the acoustics of each room to your personal taste.

Denon’s AVR-S750H offers everything most home theater fans want and need like the Marantz SR8015, but it lacks some of the newer features that may be important to gamers and 8K TV owners. This receiver has seven channels of speaker amplification with Dolby Atmos and DTS: X decoding, as well as full streaming support including Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and Heos (the Denon Multiroom wireless streaming platform). Its six HDMI inputs support many of the most attractive features of the HDMI 2.1 standard, including eARC (for better sound from your TV) and low latency auto mode (which allows devices to automatically detect and switch to the best mode for gaming) . But it doesn’t support other gaming-grade HDMI 2.1 features, such as variable refresh rate and the ability to output 4K video at 120 Hz. What we like best about the AVR-S750H are the small details, such as the simple and clear display. onscreen. Automatic HDMI source names and menus for easy setup and use, so everyone can get great performance. even if they have never used a receiver before.

Denon AVR-X3600H offers up to 105W of power into 8 ohms and is compatible with Dolby Atmos, HDR10, Dolby Vision and DTS: X for object-based audio support. Built-in Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 support allows the receiver to stream music wirelessly from compatible sources such as smartphones and tablets. Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity options allows the AVR-X3600H to access a variety of Internet-based music sources. The receiver can be controlled and integrated with your Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri or Josh.ai ecosystem.

With eight HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs, this receiver can act as a video switcher for your HD source components. It will go through 4K signals with HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision HDR formats. The receiver also has a USB port for accessing media stored on compatible USB flash drives. The Denon Setup Assistant app will help you through the setup and sound calibration process. The Audyssey MultEQ XT32 will match the sound quality to the audio sources in your listening area while maintaining the same video content.

This is where Denon’s performance improvements are felt the most, not surprising given the changes to its physical build, but, as is often the case, the company’s tweaks and modifications have led to notable gains elsewhere as well. This includes dynamics, where the AVR-X3600H approaches its most beloved siblings, combining its talent for finding the finest points of expression with a mature, textured presentation.

Even Denon’s integration of this high-end Dolby Atmos virtualization technology is impressive like the Sony STR-DH590 or Sony STR-DN1080. While this is not compared to using dedicated height speakers, there is an opening to the soundstage. Without losing too much focus, one of the company’s strengths in its line of AV amplifiers, the AVR-X3600H gives the impression of a more three-dimensional sound field. We prefer to let the amp focus on the physical channels you have connected to it, but with some units we can imagine Virtual Atmos will work just fine.

With its 13 power levels, the Denon AVR X8500H has a particularly great build quality. This home cinema speaker system receiver has a power output of 150 W/8 Ohm or 190 W/6 Ohm per channel. Furthermore, I must state that this is in single-channel mode. The functionality is superb when the instrument produces an amazing 260 W with a 6 Ohm resistance. It supports key immersive audio format as Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, and Auro-3D. You can create a 7.1.6 or 9.1.4 surround speaker set with the last by adding up to six additional height speakers.

There is absolutely nothing else like it at the time of writing. And any form of surround sound application or receiver technology you can think of is available. The speaker setup feature set is simply incredible. However, this home theater speakers, like the Marantz NR1711 or Arcam AVR20 or Sony STR-DH790, is overkill for most individuals. It’s something that should only be purchased by individuals who will be able to use all of the speaker channels. You’re wasting your time if you don’t.

If you have a large space and want to enjoy the benefits of something like Auro-3D, this is the receiver to get. It caters to a specific market, but it does it really well. If you want Denon quality but don’t want to pay as much (and don’t need as many channels), the AVR-X3600H is a good option.

The AVR-X8500 has 13 amps and a power output of 150 W per channel that supports surround formats. The fact that this device can respond to Dolby Atmos and DTS X settings as well as 9.2.4 is a significant benefit. The AVR-X8500 wowed me with its outstanding audio and video capabilities.

The Denon AVR X4700H is a punchy, powerful 9.2 channel receiver that not only scales to 11.2, but also packs a lot of tech into a small package. In terms of sound quality and feature set, it comfortably outperforms comparable devices from Onkyo, Yamaha, and Arcam. It’s one of the best-sounding receivers on the market, and certainly the best in this price range for a budget receiver.

We aren’t usually lovers of incremental updates. Denon, on the other hand, has kept the pricing the same as the previous generation while making major circuitry upgrades. Although the AVR-X4700H has the same exterior as the previous receiver, the internals have been completely rebuilt, including the installation of new power supplies for even clearer sound. You get Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Amazon Alexa support, Audyssey room correction, and even Auro-3D, among other things. If you don’t have the cash, this may not be the receiver for you – and it’s certainly not suitable for small spaces. If you’re working with a limited amount of space, the Sony STR-DN1080 is a better option.

Anyone searching for the greatest overall AV receiver for the money, in our opinion, should buy a Denon—specifically, the Denon AVR S960H. It’s without a doubt one of the best receivers we’ve ever heard, with a powerful, hard-hitting sound. It easily outperforms all other receivers in this category, easily outperforming Sony and Yamaha versions. It includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound, Bluetooth, and Spotify Connect for music streaming. The AVR-S960H is easily the best receiver you can buy, thanks to its incredible sound and feature package.

Chromecast is one function we’d like to see added to the Denon AVR-S960H. This is a shocking absence, made all the more aggravating by the fact that Denon’s own streaming app, HEOS, is clumsy and inconvenient to use. However, the AVR-S960H can be used without streaming services. This receiver outperforms products such as the Yamaha RX-485 (below) and even Denon’s other offerings. It is, without a doubt, one of the best models available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many watts per channel do I need?

The amplification power of a home cinema receiver is a crucial factor. In other words, the number of watts delivered to a single channel. This is a delicate subject to which we must pay close attention, as a lack of power is one of the most important variables influencing the final perceived sound quality.

The amount of amplification power that the receiver can provide to each channel is an important factor to consider when making a decision. Because one of the elements that has the greatest impact on the sound quality is a lack of vitality.

How many channels do I need?

When selecting a receiver, consider where the home theater system will be installed, which room it will be in, the dimensions of the room, the space available for speaker placement, and so on.

It will be easier for the user to calculate how many channels are required based on this information (usually 5.1 or 7.1). Currently, the majority of mid- to high-end receivers are 7.1 or higher compatible, with 5.1 equipment falling within the budget range. Also, keep in mind that the more channels the receiver has, the wider the sound field it can cover.
