Quick Answer
Place the center channel at 0° on the screen centerline at ear height, front left and right at 22° to 30° from center, 5.1 surrounds on the side walls at 100° to 120° (just behind the seat), and in 7.1 move the side surrounds to 90° to 110° and add rear surrounds on the back wall at 135° to 150°.

Subwoofer Placement & The Subwoofer Crawl
Low frequencies below 80 Hz interact strongly with room boundaries. Rather than guessing where your subwoofer sounds best:
- Single Subwoofer Starting Spot: Place the subwoofer along the front wall about one-quarter to one-third of the way across the room width (avoiding dead center, which excites a room-width null).
- The Subwoofer Crawl: Temporarily place the subwoofer on your main listening seat at ear height, play a repeating bass-heavy track or 40–80 Hz sweep, and crawl along the floor perimeter where the sub could live. Where the bass sounds tightest, smoothest, and most even is where the subwoofer belongs.
- Dual Subwoofers: Place them at the midpoints of opposing walls (front/back or left/right) or in opposite front corners to cancel standing-wave modes across multiple seats.
