The Smart Soundbar 300 from Bose is the company’s latest and greatest soundbar: It’s small, supports the latest features, and in our hands-on testing, it sounded great.
This is a rather modest soundbar for its class, at 23.6 inches wide, and should fit under most TVs. It comes as a stereo soundbar, but with the addition of a Bose Bass module and a pair of surround speakers, it can be upgraded to a surround sound system. The soundbar and subwoofer have been tested, but the surround sound system has not.
The HDMI and optical audio inputs, as well as IR and Bass Module connectors, are all available on the Bose Smart Soundbar 300. These connectors are supplemented with Bluetooth and Amazon’s Alexa, making the soundbar extremely well-rounded. During our testing, we used the HDMI port and Bluetooth, both of which worked perfectly right out of the box.

When utilized without the separate sub and rear satellites, the Bose Soundbar 500 is a decent soundbar. Although it may not become as loud as some other soundbars, its sound profile is well-balanced and neutral. Some people, however, may believe that this bar is lacking in sub-bass. It has problems operating at maximum level and compresses a lot, especially in the bass area, on top of not being able to reach very loud. On the plus side, the L/R drivers of this 3.0 configuration are on the bar’s side, which helps to extend the soundstage a little, but not as much as the Bose Smart Soundbar 700.
