Can you Daisy Chain Speakers?

Connecting numerous speakers to a single audio source using daisy chains is an easy method. This enables the sound input signal to be extended to every speaker connected to the chain. It is frequently used with home audio systems that employ a single power output to supply many living room speakers, in meeting or conference rooms, and with public address systems. To ensure your speakers produce the best sound possible, we’ll go over how to daisy chain them in this post in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.

Can You Daisy Chain Speakers?

If your setup consists of a power amplifier followed by a number of passive speakers, you are free to daisy chain as many speakers as you want. Your amplifier’s ability to handle impedance will determine how many speakers you can daisy link. If you have powered speakers, you may simply connect one to the source’s audio outputs and then attach the next using the “extension” output.

How Many Speakers Can Be Daisy Chained Together?

Depending on your present arrangement, you can chain together a certain number of speakers. More than two speakers should not be chained together in a single chain as this increases the resistance of the entire sound system. The amplifier raises the current it supplies when it detects an overall resistance that is too low, which might result in amplifier overload.

Active speaker pairs have their own amplifiers, so they don’t need to draw electricity from your primary amplifier. As a result, it is simpler to connect multiple pairs of HiFi speakers together utilizing speaker cable without significantly affecting your main power source.

Because passive speakers lack an amplifier or power supply, their net impedance is larger than that of active speakers. It is important to keep in mind that impedance loads will always be higher when daisy-chaining passive speakers because they can cause mechanical or thermal failure.

How to Daisy Chain For Active Speakers

Starting with the simplest option will be helpful. You can daisy connect as many speakers as you want, provided that each link in the chain is powered. This is true of all types, including woofers and satellites. The procedures are simple:

1. Start by connecting your active speaker’s input to the audio output from the source. A mixer, computer, or audio player are a few examples of audio sources. Avoid sending audio from an amplified source to active speakers if you don’t want to get into trouble.

2. Look for an output marked “extension” or “through” on the back panel of your powered speaker where the audio is being received. Either a Speakon connector, an XLR, or a 14″ cable should be used. Verify that the source audio is playing through the first speaker and that it is functioning properly.

3. Attach the following speaker to the chain between the first one’s “extension” or “through” and the next one’s input. With as many powered speakers as you like, repeat steps 2 and 3.
